I know your time is precious, so let’s get started.

Why Measuring Matters More Than Ever

If you’re not measuring, you’re not marketing – you’re guessing.

So many new clients come to me saying they’ve tried everything, yet when I ask what’s working best, they’re unsure. That’s because without marketing measurement, you’re flying blind. You might be doing lots of activity, but you won’t know what’s delivering value or wasting time.

Measurement gives you clarity and control. It helps you make better decisions, stay focused, and stop the endless cycle of trying everything at once. Importantly, it helps you future proof your marketing.

Where to Start – Simple But Strategic Metrics

The key is to measure what aligns with your goals:

  • If your goal is awareness, track reach and visibility.
  • If your goal is leads, track enquiries, conversions, and engagement.
  • If your goal is retention, track repeat business and referrals. It’s not about drowning in data. It’s about meaningful measurement that links to your objectives. One of my Strategy Cycle™ Program clients was overwhelmed by data. Once we identified just three core metrics that directly tied to her goals, everything changed. Within weeks, her marketing became more focused, her actions more intentional, and her results improved.

That’s the power of tracking the right things.

The Review Habit – And Why Reflection Matters

Here’s where most business owners go wrong. They measure, but they don’t review.

Reviewing your marketing monthly helps you spot what’s working, what’s not, and where you can improve. It’s why so many of my clients love the Monthly Marketing Momentum Calendar – it keeps them accountable, structured, and in control.

And while you’re reviewing, remember to give yourself credit for what’s going well.

Why Reviewing Matters To Me

Back when I was doing my MBA, we had a module called Reflective Practitioner. Honestly, I couldn’t see the point at first. But it turned out to be one of my biggest learning moments.

I realised that while I’d been reflecting for years, I’d been doing what I now call negative reflection – always focusing on what I could do better, rather than what I’d done well.

Now, I still believe in improvement. In fact, that’s why I named my businesses Better Marketing and Better Networking Hubs. My motto is to be better today than yesterday, but not as good as I’ll be tomorrow. And that’s exactly what I help my clients do too.

But during that MBA module, I realised I wasn’t giving myself enough credit. So, if you take one thing from this episode, it’s this – recognise what’s already great about what you do. You’re running a business, serving clients, and showing up every day. That alone puts you in the top percentile of achievers. Give yourself that credit.

Refining for Results

Once you’ve measured and reviewed, refinement is where progress happens.

Refinement might mean tweaking your message, updating your approach, or simplifying your marketing strategy so it works better for you.

AI can also help here. You can use it to analyse trends, spot engagement patterns, and even suggest ideas for repurposing your best content. But remember, AI is there to support your strategy – not replace your thinking.

From Marketing Plan to Progress Client Story

One of my marketing consultancy clients runs a branding agency. They’ve been in business for over 20 years and already had an incredible reputation. But when we worked together, we identified a new marketing channel that wasn’t being fully used.

By introducing that channel and creating a strategy around it, they not only brought in new business, but something unexpected happened – previous clients started coming back to use services they hadn’t even realised my client offered.

That’s the beauty of refining your marketing. Sometimes, it’s not about reinventing everything; it’s about shining a light on what’s already there.
